Canada’s largest chain of bookstores, Indigo Books & Music, together with the designers of Burdifilek, Indigo's managers have transformed something simple into something truly special.

The managers of Indigo have reinvented the bookstore and are welcoming their customers with a new concept: a store full of cultural experiences. The goal is to turn buying books into an exciting experience because the entire design tells a story of its own.

The range of materials used creates a captivating setting for the overall customer shopping experience. Burdifilek uses design to reflect the style of a Tribeca loft, combining industrial elements with those of a contemporary gallery. The interplay of light and dark elements reflects an imaginative story that Indigo wants to create with this refurbishment. The central element of the design is the discreet wood reproduction from EGGER: H3760 White Cape Elm with the synchronized pore surface ST29 Feelwood Ambiance.

Laminates are decorative coating materials, made of core paper layers and decor paper impregnated with resins. The layers of paper are pressed under high pressure and heat. Laminates are used to coat a wide variety of coreboards like chipboards or MDF boards.

The decor used as laminate exhibits a soft gradient of large entire florets. The lightly limed pores appear rough, which is also reflected in the feel of the ST29 Feelwood Ambiance surface. The entire florets are elegantly highlighted by the matt-gloss effect, which works particularly well on larger surfaces thanks to the XL format. Despite being light, the white color displays visible grain and color play. Black and white contrasts, like those used by Burdifilek for Indigo, can be obtained in this way.

Burdifilek was recognized at the International Store Design Award 2017 of the Retail Design Institute for its design of the Indigo branch in CF Sherway Gardens.
