More about this product

The Luitpoldbad as a freestanding monument has a special significance for Bad Kissingen. Having once been the largest bathhouse in Europe. This monumental atmosphere can still be felt inside the historic rooms. The Luipoldbad is now being refurbished into a new civic center, and in addition, the inner courtyard is being upgraded for concerts and events. MDT-tex office designed a landscape of waterproof canopies that offer protection from the sun and rain, adapting to the existing space.

Textile Outdoor Architecture

The project is made of 10 identical umbrella constructions in four different heights. The individual umbrella constructions consist of a steel mast with 168,8 x 8 mm diameter, a steel telescope with a diameter of 101,6 x 5 mm and a white powder coated mast tube cladding of 250 mm. A lashing belt is integrated into the spokes to additionally secure the umbrellas when closed. The tulip umbrella is covered with a PTFE membrane, which is extremely resistant against environmental influence and has a self-cleaning effect. For the evening hours the umbrellas are equipped with radio-controlled LED lighting to create a harmonious ambience. As the umbrellas not only provide shade, but also serve as a rain protection, the water is drained through the double mast system. The umbrellas can be installed at different positions throughout the courtyard to adjust to any event and can be regulated thanks to it's motorized shade system.
