The Series 7™ designed by Arne Jacobsen is by far the most sold chair in the history of Fritz Hansen and perhaps also in furniture history. The pressure moulded veneer chair is a further development of the classic Ant™ chair. The four-legged stackable chair represents the culmination of the lamination
technique. The visionary Arne Jacobsen exploited the possibilities of lamination to perfection resulting in the iconic shape of the chair. Series 7™ represents the chair in the Fritz Hansen collection with the widest range of applications.
The Series 7™ chair by Fritz Hansen is also available in two finishes: Coloured ash (lazur) or Lacquered, in 12 different colours: White, Black, Nine Grey, Egyptian Yellow, Chevalier Orange, Opium Red, Ai Blue, Hüzün Green, Evren Purple, Chocolate Milk Brown, Altstadt Rose and Trieste Blue. All models are also available with front or full upholstery in fabric or leather.
The shell is made of laminated, form pressed veneer. The outer veneer is sliced maple, beech, ash, oregon pine, cherry, elm, oak, walnut, dark stained oak or full dark stained oak, the inner seven veneer layers are made of beech. The veneer layers are glued together with water based urea-
formaldehyde glue. The chairs are also available in the finishes; coloured ash and lacquered. Un-upholstered chairs are coated with polyurethane lacquer, which prevents the emission of formaldehyde.
The chairs are also available with upholstery:
- Several textiles are available with EU Eco flower mark.
- Foam is polyurethane (PUR).
- A water-soluble glue is used for bonding of textile to the foam and foam to the shell.
The base is made of chromed steel tubes and can be recycled.
The base for 3107, 3207, 3187 and 3197 is made of 14 mm chromed steel tubes with 4 legs and leg ferrules of black synthetic material. The swivel base for 3117 and 3217 is made of 14 mm chromed steel tubes and 5 hard-wheel castors with aluminium caps (soft wheels are also available). The 3107 chair is also available in a monochrome version with legs powder coated in colours matching the shell - the monochrome colours are: White, Black, Chevalier Orange and Trieste Blue.
