Challenge
In order to maximise the match day experience for fans and to continue staging major local and international events an upgrade in facilities and amenities was necessary. Constructing the roof of the new Bradman and Noble stand was always about safety and buildability working 20m above the ground.
Solution
In collaboration with Cox architects and AW Edwards, the last two metres of the entire perimeter, both above and underneath, were designed and constructed by ShapeShell as complete 12 meter nose cone sections.
These sections not only incorporated the gutter detail but also the underlying sofit. Lifted as complete units the amount of work required at height was dramatically reduced. This innovation was recognised by the Master Builders Association with AW Edwards picking up the gong for MBA Excellence in Construction Award – Construction Innovation and Technique 2014.
ShapeShell is used on high rises where maintenance is infrequent and must be made as simple as possible. ShapeShell is a non-reactive, non-conductive building material and as such will not react to other materials (coatings and fasteners etc), as well as designed to resist impact. A key strength is its ability to absorb impact during an extreme event (eg. hail storm) and return to its original shape without memory or fatigue.
