More about this product

The highly organic shape of the ground floor colonnade, extending around the full perimeter of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Care Hospital (VCCC) in Melbourne, was a perfect match for ShapeShell single skin. The material is able to take advantage of the natural strength of the complex curved design, giving the entrance an elaborate yet monolithic look. The shape was possible thanks to highly accurate 3D digital manufacturing techniques meant minimal section joins, while a cementatious finish incorporated during manufacture gave the structure the look and feel of concrete.

Designed by architecture firm STHDI+MCR, and built by Grocon PCL, the VCCC building features ShapeShell products also on its feature facade. The building counts 130,000 sqm and was completed in 2016, under the leadership of Christon Batey-Smith, Rohan Wilson and Richard Does.
