Use
Automated interior movable glass wall for acoustic space division with daylight transmission. -
Applications
Conference and convention venues, hotels and ballrooms, corporate headquarters, universities, showrooms and large multipurpose spaces. -
Characteristics
Single panel automatic operation by touchpad, up to 30 panels on 164 feet of track, travel speeds up to 30 ft/min, obstacle detection with automatic stop and reverse, 51 STC with Acousti-Clear® Motorized, tempered glass 5/16 to 3/8 inch, maximum panel width 4 feet, maximum height 12 feet (3,658 mm), maximum panel weight 550 lbs (250 kg).
Modernfold manufactures operable partitions, glass wall systems and accordion doors for interiors that need to change configuration over time. The ComfortDrive® Automated Self-Driving Panel System applies full automation to the Acousti-Clear® glass wall: rather than being pushed into place by hand, each panel is motorized and travels to its own pre-programmed position under touchpad control, so an entire room division is set up as a single operation.
How the self-driving system works
Each panel is programmed individually through the control system, and the trolleys carrying the panels communicate with the control box while in motion. One run supports up to 30 panels on 164 feet of track, with travel speeds reaching 30 feet per minute. Because positions are stored rather than judged by an operator, the same room configuration is reproduced exactly each time — which matters most in venues that alternate between several standard layouts across a day.
Safety and control
An integrated monitoring system detects contact with an obstacle and stops and reverses the panel. This is a defining consideration for automated glass walls in occupied spaces, where panels travel through areas that may be crossed by people while the wall is deploying. Control locations and the electrical service to the track should be coordinated with the local distributor at design stage.
Acoustic and glazing options
Paired with Acousti-Clear® Motorized panels, the system reaches 51 STC, with the ComforTronic® motorized seals engaging once each panel has arrived at its programmed position. Glass is clear tempered as standard in 5/16 inch (8 mm) or 3/8 inch (9.5 mm), with low-iron, frosted, high-STC and MorphGlas™ switchable options available. The rail is 4.6875 inches (119 mm) horizontal, finished in clear anodized, satin stainless anodized, or powder coat in white, black or standard RAL colors. The same ComfortDrive® platform can also carry PureView® single-glazed panels where daylight and transparency take priority over acoustic separation.
Dimensions and closure
Maximum panel width is 4 feet (1,219 mm) and maximum height 12 feet (3,658 mm), with panels weighing up to 550 lbs (250 kg) — a figure that determines the structural support required above the ceiling. The run can be closed with an automatic glass expandable panel, AWA, or a manual or automatic pivot door.
