For over 100 years, FSB has been producing door and window handles exclusively made in Germany. Now, the company is bringing back a revised version of the rgs (rams gray black), an iconic door and window handle designed by Dieter Rams in 1986.
The relaunch of the Dieter Rams handle, known as the FSB 1138, marks the 40th anniversary of the Design-Workshop in Brakel. An event where FSB invited international architects and designers — including Hans-Ullrich Bitsch, Mario Botta, Peter Eisenman, Shoji Hayashi, Hans Hollein, Arata Isozaki, Alessandro Mendini, Dieter Rams together with his student Angelika Knoop, and Petr Tučný — to ponder the question: "Is it even possible to create new forms anymore?" Three designs, including Rams' handle, enriched the FSB portfolio during the following decades.
Beginning in 1988, the FSB 1138 was manufactured using natural-finish aluminum and thermoplastic. Over time, however, the aging characteristics of the plastic no longer met East Westphalian quality standards, leading to the discontinuation of production in 2005. The revised version of the FSB 1138 handle was carried out in close coordination with Dieter Rams and is now manufactured locally from aluminum, featuring its classic gray tone in a new Aluminum Pure finish.
