Characteristics
Non-combustible stone wool core that prevents fire spread without releasing additional toxic gases; combined thermal, fire, and acoustic performance; CORE BL boards for cutting into lamellas (continuous lines); CORE BP boards for direct bonding to facings (discontinuous process); multiple grades according to mechanical performance
FIBRAN is a Greek group dedicated to the production of insulation and building materials. For panel manufacturers, the company offers its FIBRANgeo CORE range of stone wool boards, developed specifically to serve as the insulating core of sandwich panels.
Sandwich panels are widely used construction elements typically composed of three or more materials: the outer layers carry the structural load, while the core provides thermal insulation, fire protection, and sound insulation. The most common panels on the construction market consist of insulation boards faced with corrugated galvanized steel sheets.
The Advantage of a Stone Wool Core
The competitive advantage of panels with a stone wool core is their fire resistance. In the event of a fire, these elements do not contribute to the spread of flames — on the contrary, they help contain it — and they do not produce any additional release of toxic gases. In this respect, stone wool panels are considerably safer than panels with an organic core.
Continuous and Discontinuous Manufacturing
Panels with a stone wool core can be manufactured on continuous lines or through a discontinuous process, and the preparation of the core material differs accordingly. In continuous sandwich panel production, the core is typically composed of lamella pieces in which the stone wool fibers are oriented vertically, giving the insulating core better mechanical properties than a horizontal fiber arrangement. The discontinuous process, in contrast, bonds whole stone wool boards to the outer layers; the boards suited to this method are produced through a specific fiber compression that gives them high mechanical rigidity.
The FIBRANgeo CORE Range
FIBRANgeo CORE BL boards are ready to be cut into lamellas, which are then placed in the core of the sandwich panel, and are classified in several grades according to the mechanical properties of the lamella. FIBRANgeo CORE BP boards are ready for direct bonding to the outer layers of the sandwich panel, classified in grades according to the mechanical rigidity of the board itself.
