LINIT U Glass Profiled Glass at Vienna Simmering Heat Pump

The Vienna Simmering Large Heat Pump is a landmark infrastructure project supporting the decarbonization of Vienna's district heating network. Located within the Simmering power station site, the facility captures previously unused waste heat and converts it into usable thermal energy through advanced heat pump technology. Designed by smartvoll Architekten, the contemporary industrial building combines technical performance with a distinctive architectural identity. Its structural framework is enclosed with aluminum cladding, while the building's end walls feature expansive translucent glazing that emphasizes the project's innovative character.

LINIT® EcoGlass Profiled Glass defines the large end façades of the machine hall, creating a lightweight, translucent envelope that contrasts with the building's solid metal cladding. The profiled glass system allows natural light to filter into the interior while giving each elevation a unique architectural expression, particularly along the fanned north-east façade. Reflections from a water basin animate the glass surface throughout the day, while integrated LED lighting enables messages to be projected onto the façade at night, visually communicating the plant's energy transformation process. With its high load-bearing capacity and customizable glass thicknesses, web widths, and flange heights, the system provides both the performance and design flexibility required for this next-generation energy facility.
