Profiled Glass at Emirates Cable Car Terminal | Lamberts

Lamberts is a manufacturer of cast glass products for architectural applications, offering high-performance glazing solutions that combine durability, structural performance, and design flexibility. LINIT U Glass Profiled Glass from Lamberts was used for the terminals of the Emirates Cable Car, designed by Wilkinson Eyre, in London, England.

Opened ahead of the 2012 Summer Olympics, the Emirates Cable Car was the first urban cable car in the United Kingdom, connecting The O2 Arena in Greenwich with the ExCeL London exhibition centre across the River Thames. The approximately 10-minute journey reaches heights of up to 90 metres, providing panoramic views of the city while serving as both a transport link and a public attraction. Designed by Wilkinson Eyre, the two terminal buildings were conceived as lightweight glazed pavilions that express the movement and engineering of the cable car system. Their cantilevered upper levels accommodate the boarding platforms above the ticketing areas, while the Royal Docks terminal also houses the drive motor for the installation.

LINIT® EcoGlass 'solar' was incorporated into the façades of the terminal buildings, creating a translucent building envelope that reinforces the project's light, industrial aesthetic. The profiled glass system is combined with transparent glazing to reveal the cable car's internal machinery, highlighting the engineering behind the transport system. Offering high load-bearing capacity and available in custom glass thicknesses, web widths, and flange heights, the system provides the durability and design flexibility required for this high-profile public infrastructure project.
