Modular Seating in Benidorm Hospital | Sellex

Sellex is a company dedicated to designing furniture for contract and public spaces. Its versatile collections reflect curiosity and innovation, shaped by a broad, sensitive outlook that draws inspiration from disciplines, ways of thinking, and lived experiences.

The extension of IMED Levante Hospital in Benidorm, Spain, was developed under the concept of "the environment that embraces", a guiding principle that frames healthcare spaces as places of warmth, comfort, and human connection.

The project, carried out by MGA Interiorismo de Autor, approaches the hospital not as a clinical setting but as an environment shaped around the experience of the people who use it, with architecture and interior design serving patient well-being as a primary consideration. Sellex's benches were selected for the hospital's waiting areas.

IMED Levante new building adjoins an original volume and connects to it through a large entrance hall, housing expanded clinical areas, including new bedrooms, operating theatres, and outpatient clinics, alongside communal and waiting spaces. The exterior entrance establishes the tone of the project through a composition of fountains, vegetation, and seating surfaces that create a gradual transition between the outside and the interior.

Inside, the design adopts a serene and refined aesthetic. Wood serves as a unifying material thread throughout, combined with noble finishes, textile-effect vinyl surfaces, and a balanced colour palette calibrated to reinforce a sense of calm. The overall interior language moves away from conventional clinical references.

This approach to healthcare architecture was recognised with the German Design Award 2026, granted to MGA in the Public Spaces category as Excellent Interior Architecture.

Within this setting, Sellex SLAM Soft chairs and SQUARE benches were selected for the hospital's waiting areas. Both pieces were installed in multiple configurations, 2- to 4-seater arrangements with backrests and upholstery, responding to the functional and capacity requirements of the spaces while maintaining the level of finish and human scale consistent with the rest of the interior.

The selection reflects the design team's intention to treat furniture not as an accessory but as an integral component of the architectural ensemble.
