The Translucence House, designed by Fougeron Architecture, takes its name from a design ambition that runs through every architectural decision in the project: the dissolution of material boundaries in favour of light, view, and spatial continuity. In this context, the choice of a Siller Treppen glass staircase was not incidental — it was integral to the project's formal logic. A conventional staircase in timber or steel would have introduced mass and opacity into an interior conceived around the passage of natural light; the glass stair becomes instead a refracting and reflecting element that contributes to the luminous quality of the space rather than interrupting it.
The staircase Siller designed and installed for the project employs structural glass treads — laminated safety glass of calculated thickness, engineered to carry residential loads without visible steel reinforcement. The balustrade is frameless glass, with point-fixed connections reduced to the minimum size that structural requirements allow. The handrail is a single slender steel rod, a decision that preserves the transparency of the ensemble while providing the necessary ergonomic and code-compliant grip. The result is a staircase that is present in the space as light, reflection, and geometry rather than as material mass.
