Siero Lam is a Spanish producer of wood products and compounds for construction, dedicated to distributing sustainable timber solutions.
Siero Lam supplied chestnut laminated wood solutions for the refurbishment of the former town hall of A Fonsagrada, Spain, now transformed into the Forges Cultural Center. The intervention balances heritage conservation and architectural innovation, using locally sourced chestnut wood as a structural and expressive material.

Originally built in 1845 and unused since 2015, the historic building was adapted to house the collection donated by the family of cartoonist Antonio Fraguas, ‘Forges’. Designed by the Galician studio FIRM architects led by Daniel Gómez Magide and Adrián López Rancaño, the refurbishment prioritized structural consolidation while respecting the architectural and cultural value of the existing structure.
Local chestnut wood was selected for its environmental proximity, material quality, and structural performance. Used in its laminated form, the timber contributes both to the preservation of the building’s character and to the introduction of contemporary construction solutions.

The primary structural solution is based on chestnut glulam beams supplied by Siero Lam, applied notably in the building’s central courtyard. These laminated beams allow for large spans without intermediate supports, enabling slimmer structural elements and redefining the spatial configuration while maintaining structural stability. The product is CE marked, ensuring consistent mechanical resistance and controlled aesthetic quality.
In addition, laminated chestnut scantlings were used in the manufacture of joinery elements, providing dimensional stability, high strength, and improved thermal performance. Thanks to the low thermal transmittance of chestnut wood, these carpentry solutions contribute to enhanced energy efficiency and long-term durability, supporting both environmental and economic sustainability objectives.
