Siero Lam is a Spanish producer of wood products and compounds for construction, dedicated to distributing sustainable timber solutions.
Siero Lam supplied chestnut wood façade cladding for the refurbishment of the Palacio de los Deportes in Oviedo, Spain. Designed for exterior performance, the system uses a locally sourced timber species with proven suitability for outdoor applications, supporting durable envelope upgrades where material longevity and a warm architectural expression are both priorities.

The recent refurbishment delivered a comprehensive upgrade to one of Oviedo’s most recognizable buildings, giving the sports venue a renewed public presence.
A key decision was to restore the exterior’s characteristic vertical rhythm by replacing the existing slats entirely, maintaining the same pattern while updating the façade’s appearance and performance. The timber cladding introduces texture and warmth, balancing the building’s robust structural character with a more approachable, civic scale.

For the new skin, the project specified chestnut wood from Siero Lam, a species native to Asturias with a long local tradition and strong outdoor properties. Its natural durability and dimensional stability support consistent behaviour on exposed façades, helping the cladding withstand humidity, solar radiation, and thermal variation over time.
As a locally sourced solution, the system also aligns the refurbishment with sustainability goals and contributes to the regional Asturian economy.
