Pilkington UK, part of the NSG Group, manufactures float, coated, laminated and processed glass for architectural and technical applications. The NSG Group produces NSG TEC™, a range of glass with a transparent, electrically conductive coating. The coating lets an electrical current pass across the glass surface while the glass remains clear, which makes it a component of several active glazing technologies.
How It Works
The transparent conductive oxide layer acts as an electrode. Depending on the system it is built into, it can heat the glass, collect current generated by solar cells, or switch the tint of an electrochromic layer.
Applications
- Heated glass: anti-condensation, defogging and de-icing glazing in buildings
- Photovoltaic modules, including building-integrated photovoltaics
- Electrochromic devices: smart windows that change tint when a current is applied
- Touchscreens and interactive displays
Coating Properties
The hard, durable coating keeps light transmission high and its electrical properties stable over time. Technical data for each product in the range is available in the downloadable European technical datasheet.
