Abstract:
The project consists in a set of intervention strategies in a parking garage building in downtown São Paulo, with the goal of restoring local hydrological cycles and implementing new public activation programs. The intervention project became an opportunity to apply green infrastructure on a building scale, thus creating a typology that is responsible not only for the collection, treatment, and reuse of water, but mainly for the revitalization of the historic center of São Paulo, creating spaces for public use and economic activities linked to the function of environmental infrastructure, creating a resilient and ecological community.
The collected water is treated when used by aquaponics systems (a technique that combines hydroponics and aquaculture in the same feedback system) and is then reused in the building's hydraulic demands, such as in bathrooms and kitchens. This water is treated in biodigestion and wetland systems, and finally collected again and reinserted into the cycle. Located on the banks of a floodplain, the project seeks to serve as a model for a set of possible strategies in other parking garage buildings located in the region
The water, constantly flowing and present on all floors, becomes part of the landscape for theater, commerce, culture, and leisure areas. Previously linked to the precariousness of urban space due to flooding in the region, water is given new meaning, presenting itself as a virtue of the social and environmental dynamics contemplated
