Abstract:

This project presents Flotopia, a narrative architectural design that responds to the ArchDaily theme of Architecture of Coexistence and Care. It addresses the invisible social and spatial divide between East and West London, which has long marginalized Asian, Pakistani, Indian, and African ethnic minority communities due to historical industrial patterns, socioeconomic structures, and cultural separation.

Located at Altab Ali Park—the symbolic threshold between divided zones of London—Flotopia is an aerial floating system that integrates wind-energy infrastructure with community-focused vocational training spaces. By occupying the air, the design acts as a symbolic breach of the urban boundary, breaking down intangible social barriers rather than physical walls.

The project aims to foster inclusive coexistence by providing culturally tailored vocational support for Asian, Pakistani, Indian, and African communities, empowering them economically and socially. It envisions architecture as a mediator that transforms hidden social divisions into shared spaces of dialogue, belonging, and dignity.

Flotopia embodies the core value of care-based architecture: bridging differences, honoring diverse communities, and building a more inclusive, empathetic, and interconnected urban future for all Londoners.
