Abstract:

Set within the historic Tuileries Garden in Paris, the Full Moon Theatre Paris is a moonlit theatre where light, geometry and reflection converge in a quiet dialogue with the night.

Lit entirely by moonlight, its roof geometry is precisely aligned with the lunar path, allowing soft beams of light to enter through carefully shaped apertures. At its centre lies a pool of water — the stage — where the moon’s reflection is always present. The theatre invites the public to interact, pause, and be in sync with a cosmic rhythm.

The project is designed with care, craftsmanship and intention at various scales. At a celestial scale, the architecture is parametrically aligned to the sun and the moon's path and designed to last hundreds of years. At a 1:5 scale, a bespoke cast aluminium component is designed to manually tilt louvres on the roof to reflect moonlight into the amphitheatre space. At 1:2, a moonlight reflector is designed and fabricated to track, amplify and redirect moonlight to the 'stage'.
