Abstract:

The project centers on Fortress Goražda and a sensitive strategy for its revitalisation. The fortress’s emptiness and silence have paradoxically preserved it, creating an atmosphere of stillness that must remain untouched. Any intervention therefore becomes minimal, reversible, and deeply respectful of its historical layers.

To protect this quiet character, a new pavilion-like Zen centre is introduced nearby as a conceptual counterpart. Goražda represents the mountain - solitude and introspection - while the new structure embodies the sea - gathering and movement. Through contrast in material, form, and purpose, a dialogue emerges between past and present.

Both the new building and the restorative elements within the fortress are fully reversible, ensuring that the monument and its landscape remain primary, preserved as spaces of memory, silence, and reflection.
