Abstract:

The Floating Museum addresses coexistence within one of South America’s most complex territories: the Tri-Border region between Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. In a landscape shaped by intense cultural exchange yet marked by symbolic and institutional fragmentation, the project understands territory not as a boundary, but as a shared spatial condition.

Occupying the Paraná and Iguaçu rivers, where borders dissolve into water, the museum reclaims the river as both divider and connector. Positioned on a neutral and collective ground, the project moves across national limits and docks at strategic points in the three countries, activating existing infrastructures without imposing new physical or symbolic divisions.

Rather than consolidating itself as a fixed object or a singular narrative, the museum unfolds as a flexible architectural structure that allows multiple voices, practices, and memories to coexist. Its open and adaptable spaces host exhibitions, performances, workshops, and community gatherings, prioritizing accessibility, inclusion, and environmental care.

By embracing mobility and impermanence, the Floating Museum challenges fixed notions of identity and belonging, proposing architecture as a mediator of coexistence — where differences are not resolved, but shared.
