Panmela Castro at the MAR

The exhibition "Radical Ideas About Love," by Rio de Janeiro-based artist Panmela Castro, will open on August 9 at 5:00 PM at the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR). With a career spanning over 20 years, the artist presents an exhibition of participatory works centered on the psychological concept of the need for belonging as a vital human impulse. Curated by Daniela Labra with curatorial assistance from Maybel Sulamita, the show features 17 works—10 of which are never-before-seen—including performances, photographs, paintings, sculptures, and videos that explore themes such as affectivity, loneliness, visibility, empowerment, self-care, and memory.

The Brasil Visual series holds a preview at Praça do Russel and premieres on Canal Curta!

How have the events of recent years impacted Brazilian visual arts? This is the focus of the "Brasil Visual" series, directed by Rosa Melo, which premieres on June 25, 2024, at 8:30 PM on the Curta! channel. The preview will take place this Saturday, June 22, starting at 5:00 PM at Praça Luís de Camões (Praça do Russel) in Glória. The free, public event will feature the screening of three episodes, a conversation with some of the series' participants, guest DJs, and a pocket show by artist Cabelo. Starting from the visual arts, the series addresses themes that have impacted society as a whole, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the demonstrations that swept the country, and artificial intelligence, while also exploring spirituality and the duality between the worlds of the living and the dead, among others.

IED and Luxottica Open Day 2024 - The future through the lens of design

The Open Day, hosted annually by the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), invites eyewear retail giant Luxottica to this year's edition to teach the public how to prototype eyewear models as if they were for a new brand within the group. The experience will take place this Saturday, May 4, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the IED-SP campus, located at 617 Maranhão Street. The video art project "Ruínas" (Ruins) examines the significance of urban ruins located in the city of Americana, SP, exploring their symbolic function in times of crisis. As material remnants of political failure, economic speculation, and social decline, these ruins have become essential to many contemporary cultural narratives. The project is funded by the Paulo Gustavo Law through the Ministry of Culture, with support from the Americana City Hall, via the Secretariat of Culture and Tourism.

Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026 — International Ideas Competition for Young Architects: 10 Blind Walls

Taking a step toward improving the quality of public space, the city of Barcelona, which will serve as the World Capital of Architecture in 2026, has launched a new International Ideas Competition for Young Architects. The initiative aims to transform 10 permanent blind walls—one in each district—into new facades. Organized by the Barcelona City Council and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, in partnership with UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA), the competition seeks architectural proposals that provide meaning to walls that are currently anonymous and unremarkable, exposed in public spaces in a state of permanent temporariness.

The XIII Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism opens its call for projects under the theme CLIMATES: Actions for Good Living

The new edition of the BIAU will be held in early December 2024 in Lima, an exceptional setting for discussions regarding extreme climatic conditions and their impact on the built environment. The submission period for all six categories will close in September, and the jury's decisions will be announced collectively at the end of October 2024.
