Let's Talk About . . . Togetherness

On February 11, join d.talks for a conversation about storytelling and inclusion. At Let’s Talk About . . . Togetherness, our guest speakers will highlight the importance of stories in community building: Passed down over time, stories help shape people’s relationship to a place, to build community upon understanding and empathy . . . but, What happens when stories go missing, and some perspectives remain under the radar?

Let’s Talk About . . . Togetherness will take place on Tuesday, February 11, at the Calgary Central Library. Doors open at 6 p.m., program starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 adult and $6 students, $15 at the door. Visit www.dtalks.org to purchase your ticket.

Avnish Nanda is an Edmonton-based lawyer with a long and strong history in social justice issues. Avnish co-founded and serves as executive director of JusticeFundr, a crowdfunding platform for public interest litigants.

Catherine Hamel is an associate professor of architecture at the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape at the University of Calgary. Her works focuses on the role of architecture as an instrument for social transformation, reconstruction, justice, and representation.

Despina Stratigakos is a writer, historian, and professor at the University of Buffalo. Her work explores the intersections of power and architecture. Her more recent book, Where Are the Women Architects? (2016) confronts the challenges women face in the architectural profession.

Michelle Robinson co-chairs the Calgary committee of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls & Two Spirit; and hosts the podcast Native Calgarian. Her work includes the passing of policies to stop discrimination of First Nations peoples at a national level.
