Text description provided by the architects. The Museum and Exhibition complex at Obukhovsky plant was planned to be built as an extension of the existing museum founded in the late 19th century. The grand opening of the Complex was coincided with the plant’s 155th anniversary.
Музейно-выставочный комплекс Обуховского завода был запланирован как расширение существующего музея, построенного в конце XIX века. Его открытие было приурочено к 155-летию Обуховского завода.
In its general layout, the Complex is a U-shape building consisting of an exhibition hall, a scale model gallery and a rebuilt 19th century-style forging shop.
Здание спроектировано в виде П-образного комплекса, состоящего из выставочного павильона, макетной галереи и реконструкции кузнечного цеха позапрошлого века.
The two ‘limbs’ of the building – the exhibition hall and the forging shop – are made of red bricks with an inclined metal seam roofing. These premises are connected via a central gallery that utilises glass and metal structures in its design.
Два основных объема, расположенных по краям - выставочный зал и кузница - выполнены из красного кирпича со скатной фальцевой металлической кровлей. Их объединяет центральная связующая галерея из стекла и металлических конструкций.
Brick architecture vibes (window proportions, roofing slopes, archways, decor items) tie in with the surrounding historical buildings of the plant. The museum complex carefully introduces contemporary architecture elements, while staying true to the core architectural style.
Мотивы кирпичной архитектуры (пропорции окон, скатов кровли, арочных проемов, декора) рифмуются с окружающими историческими зданиями завода. Не нарушая основной стилистической канвы, музейный комплекс осторожно и эстетически оправданно вносит в застройку элементы современной архитектуры.
The main entrance is in the exhibition hall. Stepping inside, we find ourselves in a spacious hall designed for changing exhibits. Next we enter a glass-enclosed gallery that houses a scale model of Obukhovsky plant. The model was meticulously crafted by the famous “Grand Maket Rossiya” workshop. This particular hall, like none other, requires sufficient illumination and space, and glass structures provide plenty.
Основной вход располагается со стороны выставочного павильона. Входя, мы оказываемся в просторном зале, который предназначен для сменных экспозиций. Затем мы проходим в следующее помещение - стеклянную галерею, где размещен масштабный макет Обуховского завода, выполненный ставшей уже знаменитой мастерской «Гранд Макет Россия». Здесь как нигде требуется большое количество света и ощущение "воздуха", которые обеспечивают стеклянные конструкции.
The interior design of the third and the final premise of the complex, the forging shop, deserves particular attention. Here amidst various instruments of the past, the anvil, the bellows and the forge, we immerse into the atmosphere of a true blacksmith shop as seen by the contemporaries of Pavel Obukhov – the founder of the plant and a brilliant Russian scientist.
Отдельного внимания заслуживает интерьер кузницы - третьего и завершающего объема комплекса. Здесь, среди старинных инструментов, наковальни, мехов и горна, мы проникаемся атмосферой настоящего кузнечного цеха, каким его видели современники Павла Обухова, основателя завода и великого русского ученого.
The designers strived for creating a modern building that would blend in the inimitable style of Petersburg industrial architecture of the 19th century. The plant’s executives hold the final design in high regard, and it was also commended by several expert architects.
Авторы проекта стремились создать современное здание, деликатно сочетающееся с неповторимым стилем петербургской промышленной застройки XIX века. Результат был высоко оценен администрацией завода, а также получил высокие оценки от ряда ведущих специалистов в области архитектуры.
