Porto Academy presents workshop 'Visiting Barragán' in Mexico City

Porto Academy is the result of an enormous passion for architecture as a discipline who believes that practice, as an exercise in the profession of architect, is fundamental for the future of the discipline and, therefore, one of the reasons why the program was founded.

This set of efforts promotes a comprehensive program lived with great intensity. It is an experience that involves conferences, visits and classes, as well as the experience of living in a new city and meeting people from heterogeneous contexts, with which it is almost certain that it will generate productive discussions and establish new friendships with the intention of diluting the borders and unite people.

Since its foundation, Porto Academy has taken place at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Oporto designed by Álvaro Siza, which serves as an enhancer of the freedom they seek. Not only because of its exceptional condition where it is placed, but also because of the spatial qualities it offers. However, on this occasion and for the very first time, Porto Academy opens a summer program entitled 'Visiting Barragán' that will be held in Mexico City at Casa Gilardi and Jardín 17 to continue re-writing and re-learning the lessons of one of the most important architects in the history of Mexico and the world.

From May 31 to June 7, there will be the participation of 4 architecture offices including Rozana Montiel, Manuel Cervantes, Go Hasegawa and Sam Chermayeff. Each study is composed of a workshop leader, an assistant and 10 students. The workshop leader is responsible for defining the theme of the workshop, its objectives and its process. The workshop leader will help the students work by organizing the final presentation together with the assistant and the students and will summarize it in a deliverable. The assistant is responsible for advising and participating along with the workshop leader as well as giving assistance to students regarding their study project.

The study selection will be made after registration and confirmation of payment. Students will be assigned to a study, according to their preferences. The first option will be considered unless the number of students exceeds the vacancies of each study. When this happens, a classification will be made so that the students are placed in their second option. In the end, all classes must have the same number of students.

The program will have the participation of Florian Idenburg, partner of SO-IL on June 1st. Salvador Macías, founder partner of the Mexican firm Macías Peredo, will give a lecture on June 6. The ceremony of diplomas will be held at the Jumex Museum, ending up with a presentation of the final projects in DF League.
