CR.UX—Winter School

CR.UX - Cultural Reflux, Unravel the Experience.

Urbanization and transformation of urban cultures are the two key phenomena taking place in the Indian sub-continent. This has been intensified by currents of globalization and migration between rural and urban areas. This poses both an opportunity as well as vulnerability to cities and the urban fabric: opportunity through spatial immersion, creating networks in the social and cultural sphere, and vulnerability manifested in gentrification and obsolescence of the same.

The studio seeks ideas and strategies for resilience and seeks new ways where culture becomes a key structuring element to guide morphological changes and strengthen social and economic networks.

The Faculty of Architecture at Manipal University with its interdisciplinary faculty drawn from humanities, architecture, urban studies and urban design are conducting studios in four different places (Hampi, Badami, Bijapur, Belur, and Halebidu) in the month of December 2017. Coupled with stakeholder inputs, the studios aim to brainstorm, create scenarios, innovate design solutions, and suggest policy interventions to address questions of urbanity and global culture.
