EGGER is Enabling a New Level of Inspiration

EGGERs innovative, idea-sparking 9-Grid system and how it boosts Interior Designers’ creativity.

The EGGER Decorative Collection 2017–2019 responds to the desire for better orientation and selection with the newly developed 9-Grid system. With over 300 decors and a variety of different materials, EGGER has created an orientation system that makes it possible to work efficiently.

Klaus Monhoff is Head of Design and Décor Management at EGGER. His team of international colleagues and designers continuously research interior design trends in order to develop new EGGER decors based on their findings. Klaus Monhoff also advises customers personally. This is how EGGER gains valuable insights into how to make it easier for designers to work with the more than 300 decors available. The innovative 9-Grid system by EGGER is a result of this commitment.

Mr. Monhoff what was the biggest challenge in creating the 9-Grid system?

Our goal was to provide architects maximum ease of use. They are the beginning of every great idea. This meant that the inspiration tool needed to be as efficient and versatile as possible.

What’s the idea behind it, what does it do?

Architects often need inspiration and guidance. 9-Grids give them both. The orientation system allows them to work extremely efficiently and in different ways despite the great diversity of our decor collection. Take for example the megatrend “white”. Our white shade palette is huge. Had we arranged the shades as a long color series, it would be hard to pinpoint the right one. In the compact 9-Grid groups, however, the shades are close together, which allows a fast, direct comparison.

What is fundamentally new about the manner in which EGGER presents the decors?

Most obviously, it’s the color system. To work with just the four basic colors red, green, blue and yellow, would not have been right from a trend perspective. Because even aqua and turquoise colours and warm orange tones will be in demand in the future, as evidenced by the last Furniture Fair in Milan. So we created a system with six primary colours to represent the whole collection. All 9-Grids are based on it.

What distinguishes the new collection in terms of decors?

Combining decors and materials is and remains a key topic. Having more choice is nice but does not necessarily facilitate a designer’s work. So to help, we’ve created even more width in our application areas. Design compilations such as our "industrial style" recommendation allow the user to orient themselves quickly, despite the wide range of choices, and select on-trend decors.

What’s the big advantage of the 9-Grid system?

It enables architects to work much more quickly and efficiently, and with a lot more design freedom. We’re already working on further combinations for different applications. Architects will then be able to draw from a much wider variety of combinations to customize their projects according to current design trends.

New trend styles that inspire.

EGGER’s global trend research has identified a number of key themes. They derived nine identifiable interior styles. So EGGER used the 9-Grid system to cluster their new decors into those trend styles. They build a central element of the new collection: On the one hand, they are inspirational, as they group new decors in a transparent way, and, on the other hand, they show inspiring trends.

The style Colour meets Nature includes decors that focus on a wide color range in the decor image. It includes natural elements, but with a difference thus becoming a decor with independent characteristics. The focus is on the color.

Decors that give a calm, soothing impression are included in the style Nordic Style. Their Nordic character is not only due to light types of wood. The combination with textile reproductions and modern metallic accents is just as important.

Industrial Style includes metallic reproductions that have a rusty surface texture with matt/gloss effect. Wood reproductions whose individual character is due to metallic gloss or limed pores provide the style world with its industrial character.
