Text description provided by the architects. This self-built social house, correspond to a reconstruction program at the existing client owned lot, which was raised after the fire occurred in Valparaiso on 2013.

Platforms or terraces of the houses, which suffered the mentioned fire, are the minimum one to allow emplacing of a house. Beside the Mr. and Ms. Suarez are older people, that are why the house should have its main access as close as to the entrance elevation, which is the second floor. The second floor has the purpose to act as the first level facing the gorge.

The house is set in a way to use the first two platforms of the ground, at a -3mts level from the street elevation. In this way, the house supports comply with the necessity to be attached to the existing platforms, where the living space is projected at the slope of this enormous and natural gorge.

Likewise, the relation between the house and the nature living surrounding is by contrasting the geometrically rational volumetry in opposing to the natural organic shapes belonging to Valparaiso.

Floor Plan

The whole housing is conformed as a part of the emptiness instead the structure be projected in to the gorge. The rest of the house is based on a wood structure forming a living space that pretends to have a continuous shape, integrating upper light sources, using, and taking advantage of the great landscapes offered by this location.
