Open Call: ITAD Competition Seeks Student Proposals for "Urban Smart Green Office"

The Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA), together with Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) and Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) are jointly organizing the International Tropical Architecture Design Competition 2015 for Institutes of Higher Learning (ITAD Competition) for the fifth run this year. Themed “Urban Smart Green Office,” this year’s competition seeks for innovative and sustainable design entries that demonstrates the essentials and key constituents of a Smart Green Office Building in an urban city of participant's choice. The competition is open to tertiary students worldwide. Read on to learn more.

Focused on tropical green architecture and sustainable building design solutions, the ITAD Competition aims to reach out to students and raise awareness in the areas of sustainability and mitigating climate change. The competition not only allows students to explore the vast realms of knowledge revolving around sustainability, but also provides a platform for them to showcase their innovative sustainable design ideas.

Entries should be applicable for the tropical climate and showcase innovative and sustainable designs. They should also show how the proposed office building can integrate with the surrounding environment and landscape. Entries should incorporate both active and passive design strategies, energy efficient features and other green building features, and based on a green building assessment tool of participant’s choice to validate their sustainable design concepts. Other than the exterior design, considerations should also be given to the office interior on how user-centric sustainable features and practices can be incorporated.

The Competition is part of the Singapore Green Building Week and co-located with the International Green Building Conference (IGBC), which will take place on 02 – 04 September 2015 in Singapore. It is open to tertiary students from all around the world and accepts both team and individual participation.

Cash awards will be provided to the winners. In addition, five finalists will be invited to Singapore (flight and accommodation covered for one representative per team) to present their works at the final judging and attend theInternational Green Building Conference where finalists will get to network with industry professionals and visit green building projects in Singapore.

Registration closes June 30th. Submissions are due July 31, 2015.
