Text description provided by the architects. Wenchang, Hainan, was part of the Baiyue region during the pre-Qin period, known as Zibei County during the Western Han Dynasty, and named Wenchang County during the Tang Dynasty—a name it has retained ever since. The Book of Han: Treatise on Geography notes: "From Jiaozhi to Kuaiji, spanning seven to eight thousand li, various Baiyue tribes live mixed together, each with their own clans." The rich history and cultural heritage of the Baiyue ethnic minorities cast a poetic veil over Wenchang, drawing people to the mystery of its natural landscape.
