The Association of Polish Architects invites architects to participate in a two-stage international architectural competition for a cultural complex entitled 'The New Library'. Competition documents can be found at: https://ted.europa.eu/pl/notice/-/detail/280975-2025
The cultural building complex will consist of a Library Part, an Event Part and a common Entrance Hall with a total floor area of approx. 20,000 m2. The competition site area is 1,34 ha.
The competition is about the largest cultural investment in the history of the city of Rzeszow and the Subcarpathian region. Building the best library in the world in Rzeszow is a genuine ambition of the competition's organisers. This statement, which is only seemingly exaggerated, is, in fact, well thought out, motivated, and as realistic as possible. The best contemporary libraries from around the world should be the points of reference for the participants in the competition. The overarching idea is to build an egalitarian, logistically, and financially accessible cultural space for the residents of the city and region. 'The New Library' is to be addressed to representatives of all generations, with particular emphasis on groups that are often neglected, that is, children, young people, and the elderly. For these groups, the 'New Library' is intended as an alternative to commercial or seemingly public spaces such as shopping malls or the Rzeszow Market Square. The proposed winning project should create an organised space around culture, designed to activate the inhabitants of the city and the region to actively participate in organised cultural activities, offering inspiring spatial conditions for the realisation of these activities.
