Early Childhood Learning Centre / University of Melbourne

Masters students from the ’s Faculty of Architecture, Building & Planning worked with the Gumala Aboriginal Corporation to build an early childhood learning center in the Pilbara region of Western this past June. The students spent ten days in Wakathuni – a ‘homeland’ community with a cluster of 20 houses – working to construct an early childhood center to local needs. The buildings, built from four modified shipping containers, include two dramatic roof structures and be linked with extensive decking and landscaping.

University of Melbourne Announces Winners / John Wardle Architects + Office dA

A few months ago, we shared the ’s six short-listed finalists for their new Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning building (short list can be read here).  Of the six finalists, the team of Melbourne-based John Wardle Architects and Boston-based Office dA have been named the winners.  Professor Tom Kvan, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, stated, “The winning design showed a detailed understanding of the teaching and research activities of the Faculty and the potential for contribution to research across the campus.”

University of Melbourne Architecture Building Competition: finalists announced

The  recently selected six finalists for the second phase of designing the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning building.  The new building will consist of educational facilities for staff and students, with a total floor area of nearly 18,000m2.  The competition attracted 133 submissions from more than 15 countries around the world.
