This two-storey 50,000 sqf building is a new civic focal point, housing a library, art gallery, event spaces, meeting rooms and a café. Both levels of the structure are interconnected visually as well as by a grade stair case. The public spaces, including the community hall, multiple galleries, community rooms and library circulation desk occupy the main level, while the quiet and secure functions, such as the children’s library, quiet study and administrative offices, are situated on the second level, overlooking many of the double height spaces below.

St. Joseph’s Media / Teeple Architects

This design for a large media company brings several previously dispersed publications together in a consolidated location on Queen Street East in Toronto. The site is unusual in that it includes the third and fourth levels of adjoining 19th-century warehouse buildings. The introduction of a sky lit interior street unifies the space and the company identity, bringing together over 250 employees of 12 popular Canadian magazines (including Toronto Life and Saturday Night).

Pachter Residence / Teeple Architects

© Tom Arban

Choosing to live, work and sell his art in one location, the Artist-Owner wanted to bring these program elements together, while keeping their architectural expression distinct. Teeple Architects’ solution came in the form of three long spatial volumes stacked on top of each other, shifted laterally and longitudinally to allow light penetration into the spaces. Each volume houses one aspect of the program; the ground floor volume is the studio, the second floor; the gallery, and the top floor is the residence. The clarity and directness of the concept brings dramatic expression to the sculptural form of the building.

Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church / Teeple Architects

© Shai Gil Photography

The new Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church, designed by Teeple Architects, has been conceived as a direct reflection of the liturgical vision of its Baptist congregation. This liturgical vision has a dual focus – fellowship, which the church characterizes as horizontal relationships between people, and spirituality, which is seen as a vertical relationship between people and God.

Library and Classroom Building, Langara College / Teeple Architects

© Shai Gil Photography

From the project’s inception, Langara College was looking to address the educational and spatial needs of the school, as well as create a sustainable environment to incorporate the new Library and Classroom program. In addition to designing the building, Teeple Architects designed a master plan that offers a strategy to realize the environmentally responsible vision of the College’s future. The decision to create a LEED Gold Campus, supported by sustainable built and natural features, was the starting point for the overall Langara scheme.

Trent University Chemical Sciences Building / Teeple Architects

© Shai Gil

The Chemical Sciences Building at Trent University is conceived as a promenade, both architectural and natural, that brings one into repeated contact with the Otonabee River, the central focus of Ron Thom’s Trent University campus. Designed by Teeple Architects, it is directly linked to the ground floor of the existing science precinct, and to its +15 circulation system. The promenade weaves between these two levels, presenting views of Trent’s unique river landscape to students as they move through the campus and the building. The river is the constant reference point, ever present in one’s experience of the place.
