Taking place now until October 25, the Slocum Gallery at Syracuse University School of Architecture is displaying “Investigations,” an exhibition of the work of Syracuse visiting critic Stephan Jaklitsch and Marc Gardner, Principals of the New York-based firm Jaklitsch / Gardner Architects. The exhibit includes the work and design process of the firm through sketches, models, renderings, construction drawings and photographs of six projects. The work addresses specific conditions of site, use, the psychology of experience, sustainability, techniques of construction, craft in detail, and materiality of building. On May 11, 2011, the performance of Aeschylus’s Prometheus Unbound premiered on OMA‘s (Office for Metropolitan Architecture) stage set for the Greek Theatre in Syracuse, Sicily. The design consists of three transformable architectural devices that can be reinterpreted among the different spaces of the theater. These devices date back to 5th century BCE.
More after the break.
Designed by Bernheimer Architecture for Syracuse University, the football practice facility along with a larger strategic masterplan for the Lampe Athletic Campus situated about 3 miles south of the Main Campus seeks to create an identity for this new “middle campus” by making an assemblage of disparate buildings into a strong collection. By creating an environment that would enhance the practice session, the architects stay true to one of Vince Lombardi’s favorite quotes, “Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect”. More images and architects’ description after the break.
