OOPEAA Wins 2017 Spotlight Prize for Emerging Architects

Finnish practice OOPEAA has been awarded the 2017 Spotlight Prize for emerging architects. First given in 2009, the award was established by the Rice Design Alliance to celebrate the work of architects from around the world within their first 15 years of professional practice.

Past winners of the award have included Cadaver & Sola-Morales, OUALALOU+CHOI, 5468796, Interboro Partners, Pezo von Ellrichshausen, LA DALLMAN, Sou Fujimoto, and Anton García-Abril.

The AIA recently awarded CultureNOW and Rice Design Alliance the 2012 Institute Honors for Collaborative Achievement. The award, which recognizes and encourages distinguished achievements of allied professionals, clients, organizations, architect teams, knowledge communities, and others who have had a positive impact on or advanced the profession, will be presented at the 2012 AIA National Convention and Design Exposition in Washington, D.C. The Fall 2009 lecture series of the Rice Design Alliance will present architects involved with tower design and building. The speakers will discuss the trend in architecture to build up, the slow-down in the industry with regards to many of these large scale projects, and what all of this means for the future skylines of the world.

Getting High: Towers in Architecture begins today September 16th with a presentation by Peter Buchanan from London. The series will continue on consecutive Wednesdays until October 7th. All lectures will be held at 7:00 p.m. in Brown Auditorium, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, located at 1001 Bissonnet (enter via the Main Street door.)
