As part of the European Capital of Culture Maribor 2012, the architectural exhibition, ‘Unfinished Modernisations / Between Utopia and Pragmatism’ will be taking place at the Maribor Art Gallery from February 10 – April 22. The presentation of architectural projects and large-scale urbanistic plannings which denote the period of (socialist) Yugoslavia is a long-expected project that will focus on the milestones and visions of the (unfinished) modernisation of cities during socialism as well as answer the questions about their role and legacy in the successor countries. Maribor Art Gallery competition entry / Stan Allen Architect

18:00 - 28 June, 2010

Stan Allen Architect have shared with us their entry for the New Maribor Art Gallery in Slovenia (you can see the winners on our previous feature). The program mandates a clear institutional identity: A singular architectural complex, a progressive curatorial agenda, and a new place of public assembly in the city.

More images, a video and complete architect’s description after the break.

10EPK / Spaceworkers

Portugal-based architects Spaceworkers shared with us their proposal for a competition sponsored by the city of Maribor in Slovenia within the European Capital of Culture.
