QuadroClad™ Aluminum panels feature flat or curved planes for a smooth, uniform appearance. Durable aluminum panels are available in either anodized or painted finishes and a wide range of colors. Luxalon box and deep box systems all use a universal carrier suspension system to maximize design flexibility, allowing combinations of 2-, 4-, 6-, and 8-inch widths in either depth. Box panels are .625″ deep. The crisp module definition of the box and deep box systems makes them an excellent solution for either interior or exterior applications. IFAW Headquarters / DesignLAB

Boston based DesignLAB Architects designed the World Headquarters for the International Fund for Animal Welfare(IFAW). Given the mission of the IFAW (“provide a better world for animals and people”), the challenge was to incorporate this through sustainable design.

The program distributed in 54,000sqf is arranged in three clean volumes sitting on a reclaimed brownfield site. The volumes are open to the outside, integrated with the surroundings, through transparent planes. To control the sun over these , a series of louvres are arranged along them as you can see on the photos.

The building received the LEED Gold Certification, validating the sustainable strategy.

Nysan Aerofoil Louvers / Hunter Douglas Contract

This month, we’d like to share with you another product from Hunter Douglas Contract, that can help you improve  the energy efficiency of your projects.

The Nysan aerofoil (fin) louvers deflect thermal gain from incident sun, integrating light control into the building envelope. Not only they deliver outstanding functionality, but will also help architects create a distinctive look for the building surface. Well-designed louver configurations can be as striking as they are effective, shading the facade against low or high sun angles while making an aesthetic statement. As with any system, design considerations such as louver size and composition can affect performance.

As we told you on a previous post, last week we were in visiting the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). We showed you some renderings and the construction process, and now we bring you more details on this 6.5 million sqf LEED Platinum project, including a video with Bill Odell, design partner at .

The project consists of two parts, the campus and the university town with facilities and accommodations for students, faculty and staff.

The main area of the campus consists of 10 volumes facing the Red Sea, housing the administrative offices, student services, library, a mosque, labs, research centers and an auditorium. A Costal Studies Center is still under construction and will be opened next January.
