Novo Mesto Central Market Competition Entry / Enota

Situated in the very center of the historical town core, the Novo mesto central market feels somewhat removed today, being separated by its level and oriented towards the low-quality city space of Florjanov Square. Therefore, one of the basic guidelines for locating the new central market into the space must be to create the best possible entrance from the main square. Designed by Enota, the backbone of the new central market is formed by the covered Market Street, which lies on the level of main city square and connects the two spots closest to it on both access streets.
Podčetrtek Traffic Circle / Enota

Designed by Enota, their just completed Traffic Circle in Podčetrtek marks the entrance to the dark monolithic volume of the municipal sports hall on one and the thermal spa complex on the other side of the regional road. With a primary intent to slow down the traffic in this consequently very busy area, the main accesses to both complexes also connect to the traffic circle. Its design also suggests a tectonic shift that has caused the road surface to bloat and belched out the massive blocks. More images and architects’ description after the break.

Enota: Designpeak 11

We have featured Enota several times before and we are pleased to make you aware of a nice monograph they recently published. Founded in 1998, Enota has strung together an impressive amount of innovative built and unbuilt work. They constantly strive for their buildings to be grounded in the environment that surrounds them. “Enota’s team of architects focuses on research driven design of the environment where study of contemporary social organizations and use of new technologies are interwoven to produce innovative and effective solutions. Their solutions are strongly influenced by research, reinterpretation and development of social, organizational and design algorithms that derive from nature.”

Ptuj Archaeological Museum Proposal / Enota

The Ptuj Archaeological Museum, design my Enota, fills the gap in the natural edge of the town and recreates the green belt along the entire northern edge of the town. The establishment of the contiguous green belt articulates the transition from the old town core by creating a clear divide between the historical and the later urban structure. The building of the museum of archaeology is placed on the very edge of the former medieval city walls and is dug in as much as the conditions permit it. This way, a view of the renovated complex of the Dominican monastery opens over the new building from the north side, allowing the monastery to re-assume its role as the city’s dominant. The recreation of the monastery’s north courtyard with its original outline further returns the monastery to its former spatial boundaries. More images and architects’ description after the break.
Terme Olimia Wellness Spa / Enota

The project proposal for the new Terme Olimia wellness spa, designed by Enota, is located in the very center of a well-known ski resort, Kranjska Gora in Slovenia. With rethinking the local building characteristics completely, the new spa building exhibits attractive design and despite its distinctive and extensive program maintains the town’s unified look. Pegan Petkovšek National Gymnastics Centre / Enota

The National Gymnastics Centre Pegan Petkovšek, designed by Enota, is part of the comprehensive renovation of Svoboda Sports Park in Ljubljana. It is the first of the three sports halls that are to be built on the western edge of a belt between an access street on one side and a large greened park layout with sports grounds on the other. The building of the gymnastics centre is placed on the northernmost part of this belt. The northern and western edge of the building reference the building line regulated by the spatial acts, which also stipulate the greatest built ratio and the height of the building. The strict urban regulations necessitate a very compact design that allows for little deviation.
Herman’s Square / Arhimetrics + Enota

Herman’s Square, the new business residential building by Arhimetrics + Enota, is located at an important location in the old city centre in Celje. The land intended for construction is a part of a larger degraded non-built up area, which was somewhat forgotten for decades and exempt from the development of the city. Through the years a very heterogeneous structure evolved around this “wound” in the urban tissue, which was untouched for a long time. It is now surrounded by a range of modern construction in an area that has extensive open space intended for a future park along the Savinja River.

Gruškovje Border Shop / Enota
For the Gruškovje Border Shop commission, Slovenian architecture firm Enota designed a 550m2 store situated between two roads. Since the project has an “undemanding program”, the architects decided to create a recognizable entity that would be treated in two different ways, depending upon which road the object was viewed.
