Video: Walking with CVDB

06:00 - 7 October, 2015

Portuguese production company Building Pictures has shared with us their most recent video: Walking with CVDB. The film follows a woman as she journeys through various projects by CVDB Arquitectos, including the Braamcamp Freire Secondary School, the Arraiolos Tapestry Museum, the Jarego House, the Elderly Day Care and Residential Centre and the Cartaxo Cultural Centre.

The route is organized by the themes that have shaped CVDB’s design in recent years, such as public space, transitional space, visual continuity and materiality. In this way, Building Pictures uses the themes to connect the different spaces featured in the video.

CVDB Arquitectos has won a competition for a new student accommodation block at Lisbon University's Pólo da Ajuda campus. The building consists of three interconnected but structurally separate units arranged around a central courtyard, with the internal layout being determined by the modular unit of the individual bedrooms. On the South side of the building, at street level, the building's communal spaces and vital services provide a sense of transparency in the otherwise opaque building, connecting the central courtyard and the life of the students to the street outside.

Designed by CVDB Arquitectos, with Tiago Filipe Santos, the proposal for the Refurbishment of the Old Railway Station of Mora, Portugal is focused in the pragmatic definition of uses. These aim to bring to life the existing buildings, activate their use, clarify the functional and distributive relations between spaces, and promote new built areas that incorporate a contemporary presence through the iconographic approach of the facades.More images and architects’ description after the break.
