Designed by GRAFT Architects, Vertical Village is a residential, hotel and entertainment development in Dubai that harnesses the most powerful renewable energy source in the desert, the sun. Organized to reduce solar gain and maximize solar production, the buildings are massed as self-shading slabs at the north of the site on the east-west axis to reduce low-angle sun penetration. At the southern end of the site, a vast solar collector array optimally angles itself toward the sun and faces the main public strip as a potent gesture to the developments sustainable intent and minimum LEED Gold rated performance. Looking for a nice place to go and have dinner tonight? Here’s some inspiration from project published in 2010. Like the Floating Dinning Room, which floats on over 1,700 recycled plastic bottles. Maybe you like something like the Rockwall Bar & Grill, desgined by Dock4 Architecture in Tasmania. Or Donovan Hill’s tapas bar: Ortiga. Want some pizza? Check out this one in London, by Michaelis Boyd. Looking for something different in L.A.? Try Earl’s Gourmet Grub. Not hungry yet?

Marciano Architecture shared with us their proposal for the ‘Stavia 2012′ competition. Located in Lake Neuchatel, Switzerland, the thin blades of the hotel fit the smooth landscape of the lake to create a suspended, stretched design towards the horizon. The project celebrates the meeting between the landscape of the park and the lake, nature and water, in a staging of the exchange, the pleasure of vacationing. If you could choose one hotel to stay from the many we have featured in the past few years, which one would it be? Tough choice isn’t it? Maybe you would choose the magnificient Marina Bay Sands, designed by Safdie Architects in Singapore. Or maybe you want something smaller, like the Vivanta Hotel in Bangalore, India. Perhaps something even smaller: the Caldor Hotel in Austria. If you want something more familiar, let’s go with the Katowice Hilton, in Poland. Now, if you want something more private in a spectacular beach, you’ll definitely stay at the Makenna Resort in Brazil. Any favorite?
