AD Round Up: Kindergardens Part V

Five great kindergardens in Europe for our fifth selection of previously featured projects. Check them all after the break.

Rosales del Canal Kindergarden / Magén Arquitectos The Kindergarden in Rosales del Canal is located in an area of residential growth in the south-west of Zaragoza. This is the first phase of an educational facility that will be completed with the primary education building. In agreement with the criteria on accessibility and preferably south-facing orientation of teaching spaces, the three buildings – Kindergarten, dining hall/gymnasium and primary – are arranged in a U-shape on the perimeter of the plot (read more…)

In Progress: Design Kindergarten / CEBRA CEBRA has been designing several buildings for young users, (we recently featured their 1st-3rd grade building) and their new Design Kindergarten attempts to break preconceived notions of “what a school should look like” as a way to pique children’s curiosity and creativity. Still in progress, the daycare center’s organization is based around different “themes” that focus of specific activities -in this case art, design and architecture (read more…)

Knarvik Kindergarden / M3 Architecture The architectural language bases on the areas basic character. The rocky hills makes the building twist and turn around it. This is showed by the waving roof, adapting to the surroundings. The site is completely surrounded by unspoilt landscape, therefore it was important to keep the concept as close as possible to the “natural palette”. The outer skin is natural local wood panels, that will become light grey as time goes by (read more…)

Kinderland Kindergarten / Wolfgang Roth Architekten Wolfgang Roth Architekten’s new kindergarten building in Stuttgart, which houses space for the children and staff, features a prefabricated wood façade with light filled interiors to promote learning. Segrt Hlapic Kindergarten / Radionica Arhitekture The new kindergarten in Sesvete is one of more poetic projects in recent Croatian architecture. That which was obvious in the competition entry sketches from 2004 was confirmed in the realisation of the micro-world oriented inwards, poetic, but geometrically precise; a meadow softly enveloped by the ground-floor stretch of kindergarten units (read more…)
