How to Build a House Using Wooden Pallets

DIY wooden pallet creations are an increasingly popular trend, with projects ranging from building pieces of furniture to even making an outdoor pool. In their latest how-to, Interesting Engineering brings the DIY trend to a much larger scale with a video showing how to build a house using wooden pallets. Watch the video above to learn how to make a wooden pallet house and check out some tips from the video after the break.

According to their guide, it’s important to find a surplus of high quality wooden pallets that have been chemically treated in order to avoid bacteria, insects, and fungus.

A strong base needs to be built in order to support the weight of the house. Concrete can be used to help create a sturdy base floor. The walls should be constructed modularly out of the pallets by using them as a substitute for a wooden stud frame structure, as long as they’ve been treated with a polyurethane varnish to add an extra layer of strength.

Due to the heavy weight of the pallets, it’s not recommended that they be used for the roof. Metal sheathings, and other roof materials will better withstand the weather and provide greater support to the pallet house.

Jose Farre from DIY Pallet Furniture published this video on how to construct a pallet house.
