Pier Head, Liverpool / AECOM

It’s that time of the year. Architectural Record has published their list of Top 250 architecture firms. The companies are ranked according to revenue for architectural services performed in 2009 in $ millions.

The list is compiled from a survey conducted for Engineering News-Record’s annual Top 500 Design Firms Sourcebook. As last year, number 1 was for AECOM Technology Corporation, an engineer-architect firm from Los Angeles, California.

The firms classify themselves by:

A = Architect
AE = Architect-Engineer
AP = Architect Planner
EA = Engineer-Architect
AEC = Architect-Engineer-Contractor

I can’t believe that a list of the “Top 250 US Architectural Firms” is based solely on revenue.

the list should be called “FIRMS WITH HIGHEST INCOMING REVENUE” not TOP ARCHITECTURE FIRMS

An accountant must’ve compiled this list, or someone that could tell the difference between BIG NUMBERS and small numbers. not Architecture.

These aren`t necessarily most caring about staff either. Could be managers and shareholders make them top the list.

If you want to be on that list then you are not an architect. Don’t read archdaily. read economist and design ugly buildings.

I’ve worked at two of those firms – probably did more designing there than at my current smaller firm. Debating going back to one.

The firm I work for has risen substantially on this list. There isn’t a firm or a company out there that cares more about their people than my firm. We also design superb, cost-effective facilities and have a tremendously talented staff. I am not management or owner either just a very happy employee.
