As every year, Wallpaper* Magazine have chosen their list of 30 emerging architects throughout the world, and 13 of them gathered for above’s picture at the Centre Pompidou Metz. The complete list is as follows:

      Hard work , obsession and love for what you do, paid back with good luck for being selected , then spend time to do a special project for the issue.

      You don’t have to pay anything, but you sure have to know the right people. No matter how good your work is, if you don’t know the right people you’ll never get there.

    I don’t agree. In an irish context Simon walker (walker architecture) has been around for years in Ireland was published in A+U years ago – can’t see how he is about to be the next big thing. That said his work is very good and I don’t to detract from the achievement of getting this piece of publicity! Carson & Crushell could be, but it could be argued they haven’t done enough so far to merit inclusion. If I was to pick an irish one to watch it would be TAKA who are jointly representing ireland at the venice bienalle ,just won the RIAI best house award and are only about 30.

    I used to buy Wallpaper* but got annoyed by the lip service it pays to design to justify producing what seems more like a catalogue of exclusive brands selling a lifestyle attainable by only a handful of people. Even its creator has moved on.

    It’s probably not that difficult to get on their annual list. They need to find 30 new firms every year and that is not as easy as it sounds. If you’re young/undiscovered then you really only need to produce one wallpaperish looking project to get the recognition.

    What will be far more interesting is looking back on these issues in another 30-40 years to see who, if anyone, built exceptional bodies of work.

      Agreed.

      Congratulations to all that were selected.
      However, I personally know of some very regular if not mediocre firms/individuals that have been selected in the past…
      So, yes knowing the right person might help…
