First Renderings of Populous' Downtown Milwaukee Stadium

The Milwaukee Bucks have just unveiled Populous' initial renderings of their downtown revitalization plan for Milwaukee’s sports and entertainment district, anchored by a multi-purpose arena. The first step in their vision, the arena hopes to be a modern expression of Wisconsin’s heritage and a vibrant cornerstone to the growth of downtown Milwaukee.

Development of the revitalization plan will be led by Populous together with a number of collaborating architects, including HNTB and Eppstein Uhen, to bring both local and global perspectives to the table. With programs spanning entertainment, sports, residential, and office use, the plan will activate the downtown area year-round by transforming it into a destination. Located at the center of several bustling districts, the development will become an active connection between them and the principal space for congregation.

Drawing inspiration from Wisconsin’s past, the multi-purpose arena evokes memories of industry while its flowing form is reminiscent of the rivers and lakes of the region. Similarly, the natural beauty of the area is called out through a warm material palette, while glass highlights views of the surrounding skyline. A striking transparent façade announces the structure and allows for a lofty atrium directly beyond the entrance.

Senior designer at Populous, Brad Clark, commented, “We envision this dynamic entertainment experience as one that could seamlessly connect to the greater Milwaukee community. The goal is to design a lasting symbol for all of Wisconsin, pairing the crafted scale of Milwaukee’s architecture and innovative spirit with the natural beauty of the state.”
