Arquitectura à Moda do Porto: Episode 1, The Shimmering Lights of Porto

We've teamed up with Building Pictures, Filipa Figueira and Tiago Vieira to feature weekly episodes of their video series “Arquitectura à Moda do Porto,” which highlights Porto’s most significant buildings over the last 20 years.

The series is comprised of 10 episodes, each focusing on a different theme: light, stairs, balconies, nature, textures, doors, windows, skylights, pavements and structures.

The series highlights over 30 buildings in Porto, featuring both the work of renowned architects like Álvaro Siza Vieira, Aires Mateus, Eduardo Souto de Moura and OMA, as well as the work of a younger generation of architects, such as Barbosa & Guimarães Arquitectos, Nuno Valentim and Pedra Líquida.

Rather than identifying a style linked to the Porto school, the selected buildings intend to show Porto’s great transformation over the last 20 years, when the city first assumed its cosmopolitan character.

Arquitectura à Moda do Porto aims to show that Porto is not only a historic city with good wine, but also a city with a great contemporary architecture.

The videos are short, light and fun, seeking to stimulate the interest of not only architects, but also the general public.

EPISODE 01

The video is a journey through the shimmering lights of Porto, from the classic buildings of Álvaro Siza Vieira, like the Serralves Foundation and FAUP, to OMA’s Casa da Música. On the way, several other buildings are featured, such as Eduardo Souto de Moura’s Torre do Burgo and Trindade Metro Station, Barbosa & Guimarães’ Vodafone Headquarters and Balonas e Menano Architects’ Passeio dos Clérigos.
