Open Call: 2015 Australian Architect in Residence Program

Applications have opened for the Australian Institute of Architects2015 Droga Architect in Residence program. The Droga residency, one of only a few architectural residencies worldwide, offers successful applicants the opportunity to engage with the Australian architecture community over a 12 week period. Submissions are invited from practitioners based outside Australia for residencies available between June and December 2015.

The residency will be awarded to architects based outside Australia who exemplify the highest standard of excellence in architectural design, research and practice. Droga residents will engage in a program that includes a “research by design” project as well as seminars, exhibitions and events.

As the inaugural program of the Australian Institute of Architects Foundation, the residency conveys an ongoing commitment to supporting and communicating the value of architecture and design, and will encourage the exploration of new approaches, the exchange of ideas and international collaboration.

Successful applicants will be expected to display a body of architectural work that emphasizes a strong public and social benefit and which will be clearly communicated through their submission.

The residency includes return air fares to Sydney, a stipend, and accommodation in the Droga Apartment, the award-winning warehouse space generously offered to the Institute for use as an architect residency, by cultural philanthropist Daniel Droga.

Winner of the Robin Boyd Award for Residential Architecture at the National Architecture Awards, and the Wilkinson Award for Residential Architecture at the NSW Architecture Awards, both in 1998, the Durbach Block designed warehouse apartment is located in the heart of Sydney’s vibrant CBD.
