Text description provided by the architects. MAKE Creative have recently completed a second workplace fit out for Global Property Group, Goodman. Housed in a previously unoccupied industrial mezzanine space, this new satellite office was designed to highlight the transformative possibilities of industrial sites and create a showcase for adaptive reuse. Unit T2 in Homebush now houses Goodman’s West team, inserting their staff into a dynamic and rapidly changing property sector and placing them in closer proximity to theirWestern Sydney customers.

MAKE fitted a series of timber clad forms tightly underneath the existing steel trusses. The forms evoke the lines of industrial roof scapes and frame a formal entry into the workplace. Large and small meeting rooms, as well as focus rooms line the entry space, while opening to a view through to the 30 workstations located along the façade. The workplace is designed to be open and collaborative- long aluminium stage trusses span the space, locating the workstations as well as supporting the overhead lighting.

The changing orientation of the timber cladding serves to define the forms individually as well as creating a sense of pattern and texture. The boards also form a large screened opening in the central space, allowing glimpses of colour and movement into the breakout space behind. Yellow boards are inserted into the cladding forming a background to signage as well as reference to roadmarkings and industrial landscapes.

Floor Plan

The breakout space is informal and light, facing the workstations and glazed façade. A kitchenette crafted from formply creates a strong backdrop, and a long bench seat, custom stools and tables finish the space. Lighting is suspended from an abstract web of black cabling overhead while a custom graphic on the wall retraces the outline of the internal roofscape.

As a part of the development, MAKE also addressed the base building refurbishment and designing a new double height entry lobby punctuated by a dramatic concrete stair. The clean and graphic foyer uses an industrial language offset by custom designed wall graphic, setting the tone for the overall development.
