See more images and architect’s description after the break.

Realizing the Big-O as the interconnecting link of the Expo, and as the welcoming space to maximize public gathering. The initiative is to present the Big-O as a marine ecosystem restoration project and to allow visitors to experience this process first hand.

The Big-O provides future-oriented outdoor spaces, and improves the amenities for the overall Exposition spatial experience. The Big-O translates various functions and characteristics of the ocean as culture and art spaces, providing visitors with user-specific experiences with sensitively designed walkways, parks, landscapes, and exhibitions.

Formal Concept:

The Ocean water is a dynamic medium which hosts a diverse array of life. Filtering the fundamental ingredient for life, Water is itself an energetic substance capable of exciting reactions and characteristics. The fluid dynamics of water and its interactivity becomes the incubator for driving the formal language of this design.

i’ve seen works of g.lab couple times, and i feel like they haven’t found their own color. their works lack originality and wow-ness. feel like they are on a stage which they are playing with software, and imitating other architects’ digital work

Not only does this “work lack originality” as Jim suggests above, it literally steals parts of IwamotoScott’s HydroNet project from the City of The Future competition. In the second image from the top you can see the so-called “fog flowers” and “algae towers” from HydroNet spliced right into the scene!

how much more expensive is it to design / manufacture one off 3d curved pieces of plastic/metal or whatever it may be for simple aesthetic issues? Do straight line roofs, covers, walls not appeal to the imagination anymore?
Is this a new concept? Didn’t we see this sort of stuff in the ABYSS? underwater world?
sorry.. not a fan at all.. the concept drawings vs reality will undoubtably not reflect the other.

I thought that good architecture was suposed to increas the beauty of a skyline, not damage it. this is an eye-sore in the making

So the internet design community is so jaded that no one cares that pieces of this design have been blatantly stolen, cut and pasted (see my above post)?

i am pretty sure that this is not the only winning scheme for this competition. There were multiple winners and this may be one of many schemes that were selected. Not sure why this article seems to state that this is the winning scheme…
