2000년도에 어느 컴퓨터전시회에서 미래의 컴퓨터의 모습이라는 테마로 전시가 있었다. 거기서 마이크로소프트에서 제시한 개념이 컴퓨터의 단말기화였다. 모든 프로그램은 웹상에 존재하고 컴퓨터는 단지 거기에 접속해서 프로그램을 이용하기위한 단말기일 뿐이라는것이다. 게다가 이런 개념은 기존에 불법소프트웨어라는 용어를 사라지게한다는 것이다. 이용료계산도 철저해 질것이다. 접속해서 사용하는 시간이 환산되어 프로그램 이용료로 청구된다. 우리가 살아가는데 지불해야할 필수 금액이 늘어난다는 것이다. 이런추세로 아마 오피스프로그램도 변해갈것이다. 당시에 나는 이러한 시스템의 합리성은 결국 모든 오프라인 데어터를 온라인화시키려는 의지로 발전할것이고 그로 인한 현실의 가상화는 가속되어갈것이라고만 바라보았다. 10년이 지난 지금 그 미래상이 점점 뚜렷해지고 있다. 혁신이긴하지만 그 보다 이런 현상이 미래를 어떠한식으로 바꾸어놓을지에 대한 두려움이 확실히 앞선다.
사실 요 10년간 건축계는 너무 많은 프로그램을 활용하기 시작했다. 캐드만 하더라도 오토캐드, 오토캐드레빗빌딩, 아키캐드, 네메첵, 벡터웍스, 마이크로스테이션, 3d프로그램은 더 하다. 3d스튜디오맥스, 폼지, 스케치업, 리노, 그에 딸린 랜더머신.. 가령 브이레이, 맨탈레이, 맥스웰, 포토샵같은건 요즈음에 초딩들도 한다. 거기에 레이아웃을 편리하게 해주는 인디자인, 일러스트레이터 등등….
설계사무실에서 신입사원을 뽑을때 건축적 재능보다 프로그램을 얼마나 잘 다루느냐가 더 중요하다. 손으로 그릴때는 모두다가 같은 조건에 건축적 재능이 그 순위를 판가름하지만 프로그램으로 가면 이야기는 다르다. 사실 사무실로써도 비싼돈을 주고 산 프로그램을 신입한명때문에 바꿀수는 없는 노릇이고 그프로그램에 익숙하지 않은 사원에게 새로 프로그램을 가르쳐주는것도 시간낭비 돈낭비다. 그렇다고 프로그램을 가르쳐준것이 건축적 재량을 키워준것은 아님으로 이는 순전히 시간,돈,인력낭비다.
1년에 한번씩 새 프로그램을 배워나가야하는 수고는 결코 인생에 있어서나 사회에 있어서나 그다지 보람찬 배움의 길은 아니다.
나도 내가 무슨말을 하고 싶은지는 모르나.. 우리는 확실히 과거와 비교해서 거시적으로 봤을때 지적이지도 효율적이지도 경제적이지도 않게 변해가고 있는것 같다. 그놈의 프로그램들과 인터넷덕분에..

Using flash signals their disinterest in Mac and the iPhone. In the long run, Adobe will be sorry it never opened-open sourced something that every computer needs to run video. Not on the iPhone, not on the iPad, it’s not in the future.

I tried this last week both in house and with a consultant. I was skeptical at first, but it ‘wowed’ me. There seems to be no latency at all which was a surprise. If you have any doubts at all, give it a try. I see lots of potential with this one.

I would strongly recommend looking at Graphisoft’s implementation of ‘Teamwork’ for ArchiCAD: A considerably more advanced and integrated means of collaborating over the internet.
