Six Firms Named 2014's "New Practices New York"

The American Institute of America’s New York Chapter (AIANY) has selected six young, and “pioneering” firms as the winners of the 2014 New Practices New York portfolio competition. The award is designed “to recognize and promote” emerging practices that are less than a decade old and based within the five boroughs of New York City. As a result, each winner will be featured in an exhibition at the Center for Architecture from October 1, through January 15, 2015.

Without further ado, the 2014 New Practices New York winners are:

“The winners of this year's New Practices New York competition represent the diversity and talent that makes up the community of emerging design practices in New York City. These firms demonstrate a persistent and critical engagement with the environmental, social, and technological issues that shape our contemporary culture,” stated Christopher Leong, Assoc. AIA, and Philipp von Dalwig, Assoc. AIA, AIANY New Practices Committee Co-Chairs.

2014 Jury Members: 

  • Alejandro Zaera-Polo, architect, AZPA, and dean at Princeton University’s School of Architecture
  • Elaine Molinar, AIA, director of strategic planning and business development at Snøhetta
  • Jing Liu, principal, SO-IL
  • William Menking, editor-in-chief of Architects Newspaper, and professor at Pratt Institute
